Trade group for wellness tourism organized

The new Wellness Tourism Association (WTA) is now open to qualifying agents, DMOs, hotels, tour operators and others in the wellness tourism sector.

The nonprofit organization is designed to act as a networking group for members, who can use the WTA logo and receive a listing in the WTA directory and access to a database of members. They also receive access to industry research, marketing efforts, an annual meeting and access to WTA events.

"Our mission is clear and concise," co-founder Andrew Gibson said in a statement. "We plan to support and further the development of the wellness tourism industry through networking, education, communication and marketing."

Gibson is the vice president of Accor Hotels' Well-Being and Luxury Division.

Founding member Tom Klein, president and COO of Canyon Ranch, said the WTA will be a voice for the wellness tourism industry.

Annual dues range depending on the membership category. Agents will pay annual dues of $300, while hotels will pay $2,000.

The association was created by a group of wellness industry executives. Its first board of directors includes representatives of hotels, destinations, wellness retreats and media producers.
